Sheffield

Sheffield City Hall

Just over two hours from London by train, and less than three hours by car Sheffield is easy to get here - and when you arrive, you’ll find it’s not difficult to have a fantastic time. Head to the city centre to The Millennium Galleries - four different world-class galleries under one roof and then wander next door into the stunning Winter Garden - the largest temperate glasshouse in any European city.

With more than 50 parks, 150 woodlands, plus canal towpaths, nature trails and real countryside areas Sheffield has shrugged off its industrial past to become one of Europe’s greenest cities.

If it is retail therapy you require Sheffield has everything from malls to markets. Explore the Devonshire Quarter, with its designer stores, and vibrant bars and restaurants, or hop on the futuristic supertram to Meadowhall, one of Europe’s largest indoor shopping centres.

Then to blow away the cobwebs, explore The Peak District one of the world’s most popular national parks, which begins in Sheffield’s suburbs. With dramatic scenery and two great stately homes Chatsworth and Hardwick Hall it shouldn’t be missed..

But wait till it gets dark. There’s a mouth-watering range of places to eat from highly-rated restaurants to lively tapas bars; the largest theatre complex outside London; some of the UK’s hottest clubs and DJs. With bands like the Arctic Monkeys the live music scene is one of Britain’s most exciting too.
