All of the accommodation featured on this website has been quality assessed by either VisitBritain or the AA, or has recently applied for a rating and is awaiting assessment, so you can have confidence that your accommodation has been thoroughly checked and graded for quality.
It is important that you know what to expect from your holiday accommodation before you arrive and check in. The Enjoy England Quality Rose reassures you that the standards you’ll find are what you would expect, enabling you to book with confidence.
The Quality Rose is the mark of England’s official, nationwide quality assessment scheme and is an independent, reliable, impartial assessment of quality covering just about every type of place you might want to stay
The quality ratings give you a clear indication of accommodation standard, cleanliness, ambience, hospitality, service and food. Using a clear star and diamond rating system (1-5 stars or diamonds), they provide the reassurance you need about what to expect before you arrive. Generally, the more stars or diamonds, the higher the level of quality!
Enjoy England ratings made easy;
1 star or diamond: Simple, practical, no frills.
2 star or diamond: Well presented and well run.
3 star or diamond: Good level of quality and comfort.
4 star or diamond: Excellent standard throughout.
5 star or diamond: Exceptional with a degree of luxury.
Note: Diamonds only apply to Guest Accommodation and are gradually being replaced by stars.

Hotels
Under the new Enjoy England ratings scheme, Hotels have to be licensed, offer dinner at least 5 nights a week (unless categorised as a Metro Hotel) and have all rooms en suite or with private bathrooms. The different hotel categories are: Hotel, Small Hotel, Country House Hotel, Metro Hotel, Town House Hotel and Budget Hotel, which you will see displayed on the marquee below the star ratings.
You may also see the old star ratings on various accommodation providers who are awaiting assessment under the new scheme. These star ratings symbolise the levels of service and range of facilities. Hotels are required to meet progressively higher standards as they move up the scale from one to five stars.
1 star: All rooms ensuite or private.
2 star: Dinner usually available every evening.
3 star: All rooms ensuite. Room service also available.
4 star: 24-hour room service and 50% of rooms have a bath and a shower.
5 star: A number of permanent suites and enhanced services eg concierge, full afternoon tea.
Guest Accommodation
In 2006, Guest Accommodations will be changing the way the grading is displayed and will use stars (as currently used by hotels, self-catering accommodation and camping and caravan parks) instead of diamonds. During the change over period, you will see some establishments still graded as diamonds - the standards have not changed, only the way the grading is displayed.
The different Guest Accommodation categories include: Guest Accommodation, Bed & Breakfast, Guest House, Farmhouse, Inn, Restaurant with Rooms (no star rating).
1 star or diamond: Simple, practical, no frills.
2 star or diamond: Well presented and well run.
3 star or diamond: All rooms will have a washbasin.

SPECIAL AWARDS
Hotels, Guest Accommodation and Self Catering that ‘go that extra mile’ to make your stay a special one, will be awarded a high star rating and may achieve a Gold or Silver Award.
Gold and Silver Awards are given to establishments which not only achieve the overall quality required for their grading, but also reach the highest levels of quality in those specific areas which guests identify as being really important to them.
The areas identified included cleanliness, the quality of bedrooms and bathrooms (the furniture, fixtures and fittings), their comfort and ease of use, and the service and efficiency given throughout the guest's stay. Gold and Silver awards recognise those establishments with particular strengths in these areas.
WALKERS WELCOME & CYCLIST WELCOME
Enjoy England recognise that there’s no such thing as an average customer, and they’ve been busy fine-tuning their schemes to make your selection of accommodation even easier. If you’re a walker or cyclist, for example, you know how helpful it is to stay somewhere that offers facilities like a room to dry wet clothes – so look out for our Walkers Welcome and Cyclists Welcome logos on accommodation that does this and much more.
DELICIOUSLYORKSHIRE BREAKFAST
The Deliciouslyorkshire Breakfast logo signifies a commitment by a hotel or guesthouse to source quality local produce for some or all of its breakfast items. A minimum of 5 different items must be shown to be sourced locally for an establishment to join the scheme, although many go much further and source only local produce.
