Aysgarth

Aysgarth Falls

Aysgarth village is situated in mid-Wensleydale between Hawes and Leyburn above the River Ure. It is best known for its 3 waterfalls which have attracted visitors for over 200 years. Artists have always been drawn to the beauty of the area; Turner painted the Lower Falls. Aysgarth is ideally suited for a day trip or a longer stay as it is within easy reach of other areas of the Yorkshire Dales and the North York Moors.

It is ideal for walkers of all levels with a wonderful selection of walks from easy strolls to challenging fells. Aysgarth is on the route of the popular Herriot Way Walk.

Between the village and Aysgarth Falls lies St. Andrews Church with its outstanding screen, brought from Jervaulx Abbey at the time of the Dissolution. The extensive church grounds are full of flowers and birdsong. At the bridge stands Yore Mill which has been a corn and yarn mill. The present owners hope to generate electricity. Nearby are pubs, tearooms and a craft shop.
