Just ten miles outside of Leeds City Centre, Otley is a place full of country charm. Parts of the All Saint’s parish church, which sits in the heart of the village, date back a thousand years, and house some of the best examples of Anglo-Danish crosses in the country.
The world-famous cabinet maker Thomas Chippendale was born here in 1718 as the son of a carpenter he went on to learn his craft. Follow in his footsteps and be inspired by the landscape like Turner the famous artist, who was a regular visitor to Otley. Turner used the Chevin, a large area of moor-land and woodland which dominates the town and where the building stone derives, as the backdrop to many of his paintings.
In Otley you can catch events galore throughout the year which include a carnival, a folk festival, a Victorian fayre and frequent market days.
And if you are a fan of British soaps you’ll recognise the area from backdrops frequently featured in Emmerdale and Heartbeat.
