Yorkshire offers a huge range of landscapes – including three National Parks, two Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty and many other miles of delightful countryside.  In Yorkshire you can ride along canal towpaths, seaside promenades, moorland trails, disused railways or simply take a ride around town.  The choice is yours..

Cycling Routes

For long distance adventures that can last as long as you do, choose from a variety of cycle routes. Cycle along the White Rose Cycle Route part of the National Cycle Network or explore sections of the Trans Pennine Trail. Take in the beauty along the Heritage Coastline or enjoy a relaxed cycle through the heart of the City of York.

Trans Pennine Trail
The Trans Pennine Trail is a 350-mile coast-to-coast route from Liverpool to Hull.  The trail is for walkers, cyclists and horse riders with many sections having easy access for people with disabilities and particularly suitable for families.  http://www.transpenninetrail.org.uk/

White Rose Cycle Route
Cycle along the River Ouse, the quiet country roads of the Vale of York and on to the foothills of the North York Moorshttp://www.sustrans.org.uk/

Yorkshire Dales Cycleway
Starting and finishing in Skipton, this cycle route can be divided in to six day-stages of 20-25 miles each.  It’s a great way to see the best of the Yorkshire Dales, as it takes you through six of the finest valleys.  http://www.traveldales.org.uk/ Off road cyclists

West Yorkshire Cycleway
A 150-mile circular route that roughly follows the West Yorkshire county boundary.  Primarily for leisure cycling, the route is mainly on-road and is intended for use by all roadworthy bikes.  http://www.cycletransport-westyorks.co.uk/

Moor-to-Sea Cycle Route
Linking the towns of Scarborough, Pickering and Whitby this route features 80 miles of forest tracks, lanes and the former coastal railway.  Of course it can be tackled in smaller stages and visitors can hire cycles along the route.  http://www.moortoseacycle.net/

Mountain Biking

With all that wonderful scenery and seascapes, Yorkshire has great opportunities for off-road biking too. 

Forest Cycling
The Forestry Commission provide some great mountain biking opportunities in Dalby, Boltby and Guisborough Forests.   A range of graded routes are available from easy, moderate, difficult and severe.  http://www.forestry.gov.uk/


Trans Pennine Trail
Unlike most other long-distance cycle routes in the UK, the Trans Pennine Trail is mostly off-road. The Trail is a multi-user route designed with cyclists in mind and provides a great way to explore both urban areas and the countryside - whether that's just an afternoon ride or a journey across northern England.  http://www.transpenninetrail.org.uk/

Yorkshire Dales Off-Road Cycling
The area is acknowledged as one of the best adventurous mountain biking areas in the country, with a fantastic variety of bridleways, mining tracks and green lanes to explore.  http://www.traveldales.org.uk/

Cycle Yorkshire
