Destination of the month - Whitby

Whitby Abbey

This month's destination features Whitby...

Whitby has long been renowned for its fish and chip, abbey and connections to Count Dracula.  Now readers of Holiday Which? magazine have officially recognised it as being their top British Seaside Resort.

Beating off stiff competition from the rest of the country, this Yorkshire treasure came out on top for its gorgeous beach and picture postcard harbour.  But let's not forget the rest of Yorkshire's Coastline!  This stretch of coast incorporates several resorts along with Whitby - Scarborough, Filey and Bridlington, not to mention the pretty towns of Robin Hoods Bay and Staithes amongst others.

The coastline is also a haven for wildlife and bird lovers - Spurn Point is a National Nature Reserve and home to many different species while Bempton Cliff is home to an RSPB Nature Reserve.

The area isn't short on history either - between Ravenscar and Robin Hoods Bay lies one of the richest areas of Jurassic coastline - deemed an area of Special Scientific Interest.  Whitby Abbey in particular provides a dramatic backdrop to your holiday snaps whilst there are numerous museums to explore should time allow.

Why not head to the coast this summer and find out for yourself how fabulous Yorkshire's coast really is.  Click here for further information on visiting the Yorkshire Coastline.
