For over 30 years Last of the Summer Wine fans have watched the stars' antics played out in and around Holmfirth. You'll see Ivy's café and Compo's home in the village centre, and can even stay at Nora Batty's house in the series. There's lots more to Holmfirth though, including five star accommodation, a range of pubs and bars, and numerous arts and crafts, antique and book shops, making it a great area for selective shopping.
Run throughout the year, events and festivals provide entertainment for all the family including the Honley Show, Harden Moss Sheepdog Trials, the Folk Festival and Holmfirth Art Week. CragRats theatre hold themed evenings at their stylish café bar and attract visitors from across the country with their famed new year Pantomimes.
The wider Holme Valley brims with quaint, cobbled villages that nestle within the breathtaking South Pennine landscape and heather moorland of the Peak District - Honley, Hepworth, Holme and Meltham to name but a few. Traversed by the Pennine Cycleway and the Pennine Bridleway Feeder route; criss-crossed with walking routes, down dales and alongside bubbling streams; and home to many tranquil reservoirs, the Holme Valley is an ideal area to get out and about for a picnic and enjoy the fresh air.
