Lying to the west of Huddersfield, the Colne Valley has much to explore, including a number of stone built villages and the Huddersfield Narrow Canal which flows through the valley bottom.
Golcar, set on the hillside overlooking the valley, boasts a fine collection of weavers' cottages and is home to the Colne Valley Museum and the multi-award winning Weaver's Shed restaurant. Nearby Linthwaite is home to Titanic Spa - the UK's first eco-spa designed within a traditional textile mill.
Sitting at the head of the valley Marsden is a popular location for visitors where you can wander alongside the water's edge and retrace ancient packhorse trails. But, don't be fooled, this is a thoroughly modern village, where contemporary arts and crafts site perfectly alongside country ales and village stores.
Slaithwaite is dominated by magnificent mill buildings, as well as a Georgian Church and the nearby 16th Century Slaithwaite Hall, you'll recognise it as the fictional Skelthwaite in the TV series Where the Heart Is.
Events in the Colne Valley feature folklore festivals, jazz, brass bands and much more, and the area is surrounded by the dramatic Peak District Park and the National Trust Marsden Moor Estate making it an excellent base for walkers, cyclists and riders alike.
