Beverley

Beverley Minster

Already rich in Georgian and Victorian architecture, traditional shops and cafes, with an historic Minster at its heart and a vibrant Racecourse on its outskirts, Beverley is gaining a reputation as a festival town. A prestigious programme of events features folk music, puppets, comedy, medieval music and literature. There's even a kite festival, and a Festival of Christmas complete with Victorian market.

An unspoilt historic townscape features outstanding buildings dominated on two counts, to the north side by the medieval St Mary's Church, and to the south by the majestic 13th Century Beverley Minster. The Dominican Friary, Market Cross, and medieval North Bar are other noteable architectural features that make the town special.

In addition, Beverley provides an upmarket shopping experience. Among high street names are small speciality shops, arts and crafts, designer fashion boutiques, and antique shops and a thriving Saturday market has been held here since the Middle Ages.

Rest stops are traditional cafes serving afternoon tea or smart café bars and bistros with contemporary sofas and continental coffee.

Beverley Westwood is the place for fresh air, picnics, horse riding and kite flying and where cows still graze on the open pastureland.
