The River Nidd sweeps through the historical town of Knaresborough and you don't have to wander too far through the town to see evidence of a rich medieval heritage.
Visit the 14th century castle complete with dungeon and sallyport. The Courthouse Museum in the castle grounds houses a civil war exhibition and exhibits revealing Knaresborough through the ages.
Old Mother Shipton's Cave and Petrifying Well is reputed to be one of England's oldest attractions. Make a wish in the wishing well and see the famous petrifying well where objects have been turned to stone over time.
The annual Bed Race takes place every June. This rather unusual race involves decorated beds charging through the town before navigating the river and heading for the finishing line.
