Yorkshire Heritage

The North York Moors are fantastically popular with cyclists who use two wheels to get out and see some of the stunning countryside that the county has to offer.  The terrain is varied, from beautiful woodland to open heath, and routes can be as easy as hard as you like - although you are unlikely to avoid hills entirely in this undulating landscape.

In 2008, English Heritage is investing in more cycle facilities, including secure racks for leaving your bike whilst you take a look around the historic sites.

Here are three cycle routes that take in some of the best parts of North Yorkshire.  Why not purchase the Ordnance Survey map OL26, North York Moors (Western Area), as some of the routes are less well known!

Helmsley - Rievaulx Abbey - Byland Abbey

Helmley Castle - Mount Grace Priory

Scarborough Castle - Whitby Abbey
