Trail location 1: Viewing platform within Scarborough Castle
Get a king's eye view of the dramatic Jurassic coastline and the town of Scarborough below from the walls of the castle.
Scarborough Castle's turbulent history will not fail to inspire you as you begin your walk. The castle has survived the Roman Army, Viking invaders, medieval kings, Civil War besiegers and a Wold War 1 German Naval bombardment.

Before you even get to the enchanting Abbey itself take time to have a look around Chomley House, now the visitor's centre. Reflect on how far you've walked to get to the abbey and remember Lady Elizabeth Chomley. In the mid-seventeenth century Lady Chomley walked from Malton to reclaim her family's home at Whitby Abbey from the hands of the Parliamentarians.
