Red. A long route for mountain bikers and a rough route for road riders.
The Experience
This is one for those who want to try something a bit different. Over a third of the 100km route is off tarmac using a mixture of bridleways, farm roads and white roads. The route can be done on mountain bike or road bike and there is a 60km version of the ride.
How hard the route is depends to an extent on the weather - heavy rain will make the off-tarmac sections difficult.
You get a detailed route description prior to the event and it is quite complex. You follow others at your peril - if you do make sure they know where they are going!
This event is timed to be on the same day as the professionals race the Paris Roubaix one day classic which takes in the famous sections of cobbles, and is known as the Hell of the North. This means you can ride your very own North Yorkshire version and get back home in time to watch the pros on TV with a deserved bottle of beer in your hand.
