Three Peaks Fell Race

Three Peaks Fell Race

The Three Peaks Race takes place 26th April
Traversing the spectacular Yorkshire Dales

Week 17 - On Foot

Three Peaks April ChallengeLevel of Fitness
Black. This is one for experienced and fit fell runners.

The Experience
The Three Peaks Race, which traverses the famous Yorkshire Dales mountains of Pen-y-ghent, Ingleborough and Whernside, has a great reputation as one of the oldest, most famous and best organised fell races in Britain. First run in 1954, it covers 24 miles of the most rugged and spectacular countryside in the Yorkshire Dales National Park, taking competitors to a height of 2,500 feet above sea level. The course records are held by English internationals Andy Peace at 2 hours 46 minutes 3 seconds and Sarah Rowell at 3:16:17.

For 2008, the annual Three Peaks Race on Sunday, 26 April 2008, based at Horton-in-Ribblesdale, will be run as the World Long Distance Mountain Running Challenge.

The Council of The World Mountain Running Association chose the well established race in the Yorkshire Dales in the face of stiff competition from other high profile European destinations. The 2006 race was held in Colorado, U.S.A. and the 2007 event will be the Jungfrau race in Grindelwald, Switzerland.

IngleboroughUp to 100 overseas competitors are expected, including selected international elite long distance mountain runners for whom the organisers must provide free accommodation and generous subsidised travel.

Have a go
The race date for 2008 was 26th April - but this is an annual event.
