Heart First Bike RidesHearts First events are a fantastic way for you to look after your own heart's health whilst raising funds to help the British Heart Foundation continue with its vital and life-saving work.

The Ride

Push your stamina to the limit on the Ride of the Roses, a challenging 100 mile bike ride between two of the UK's most historic and vibrant cities.

Setting off from Lancaster University, hundreds of riders will head out across the varied and breathtaking landscapes of Northern England, including the stunning Trough of Bowland, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, Gisburn Forest and the rugged unspoiled scenery of the Yorkshire Dales.

With the majority of the route taking place on rural roads, you'll face some steep gradients and challenging hill climbs before heading through the market town of Ripon in the heart of North Yorkshire then onto the final leg towards the finishing point in the beautiful city of York. York is central to Britain's colourful heritage. Voted UK's Best City at the 2007 Telegraph Awards,York is a perfect place to finish such a spectacular ride. This walled riverside city is home to countless world-class attractions, museums and galleries, such as the stunning York Minster, JORVIK Viking Centre and the National Railway Museum. You'll be taking part in the British Heart Foundation's longest and most challenging bike ride. Only in it's second year, the Ride of the Roses provides a tough challenge but a truly fabulous route with some spectacular views.

Heart and circulatory disease is the UK's biggest killer and your stamina and fundraising skills are needed to help save more lives. Coronary heart disease is responsible for approximately one in five deaths in women. Heart disease touches us all. The chances are it has already affected someone you know, so please join in and get sponsored, whilst enjoying travelling through a beautiful and varied region.

All riders will receive a free T-shirt in either red or white and if you need transport to the start of the race, a bus services is being provided before and after the race to assist participants taking part in the event (charge applies).
