When you visit a historic site, you probably think back to when the buildings - whether castles or abbeys - were in their heyday, teaming with people and functioning as the centre of their respective communities. 

The ruins that they are today may seem empty, but in reality, they are far from devoid of life - it is simply a different kind of life that occupies the walls, gardens and pathways.
