The Bronte Parsonage MusueumA beautifully natural area bustling with culture, cosmopolitan cities, market towns, restaurants and bars, West Yorkshire offers variety in its countless sites and attractions. Bradford's National Media Museum is one of the cities most popular attractions, with free entry and a devotion to radio, TV and film. Make a visit to Harewood House, near Leeds where groups can experience a new exhibition, Work and Play - Life on the Yorkshire Country House Estate. The exhbition is now open in the Terrace Gallery at Harewood House until 2 November 2008.  This offers a rare opportunity to see some of the famous artist JMW Turner's beautiful watercolours of Harewood, only infrequently on display. To mark the forthcoming 250th anniversary of the laying of the foundation stone of the House the exhibition tells the story, through family photographs, paintings and maps of life on the estate over the years. Visiting in September? Walk along the routes at the Leeds and Liverpool Canal, take a guided walk around the World Heritage Site of Saltaire (a Salts Walk) or spend time exploring the spectacular manor house and grounds at East Riddlesden Hall.

Sylish, compacts and value for money, Leeds is a must see destination for the best in victorian architecture, hidden gems and specatular events and festivals. Visit the Royal Armouries, Britains national collection of Arms and Armour from the Tower of London. Groups will also enjoy a visit to the Yorkshire Sculpture Park, near Wakefield for a chance to enjoy exhibitions, fascinating sculptures and a walk through the gorgeous parkland.

 

Pennine Yorkshire

National Coal Mining MuseumAllow the experienced guides at the National Coal Mining Museum take you round and discover the history of science and mining through interactive galleries, and discover for yourself what life was like.

Spend time marvelling at the rare breeds at Ponderosa, Heckmondwike, set in open parkland and home to various animals, including emu, meerkats, water buffalo, skunks and reptiles.


 

Standedge Tunnel & Visitor Centre is a great introduction to the Huddersfield Narrow Canal, a waterway of startling contrasts, from tranquil countryside to dramatic mills. The canal reopened in 2001 following a 20 year restoration programme and the tunnel is the highest, longest and deepest canal tunnel in the country. Enjoy an atmospheric guided boat trip into the tunnel and wonder at the work that went into this major feat of engineering.  Special prices are available for pre-booked groups of 15 people and over and the group leader will also get a free boat trip into the tunnel! Special prices are also available on school trips. The adjacent reservoir site offers opportunities for river and pond investigation work. Equipment may be borrowed from Standedge Tunnel Visitor Centre, a £20 refundable deposit is charged.

Alternatively, visit Kirklees Light Railway, and enjoy a steam-pulled seven mile round trip from our main station area at Clayton West through the Yorkshire Countryside to our Station at Shelley n West through the Yorkshire Countryside to our Station at Shelley. Clayton West was once the end of the line on the branch, but it now acts as the starting point for the Kirklees Light Railway with a free car park, toilets, café area and much more.
