This award covers arts & culture based experiences that engage with both residents and visitors. This award celebrates both one off events and bodies of work over a period of time, including dance, drama, visual arts, music, film and theatre.
Huddersfield Literature Festival
Established in 2006, the Huddersfield Literature Festival has provided innovative and high-profile events to support and showcase both established and new, emerging writers and performers, as well as offering opportunities to attend workshops and masterclasses. The event held in march consists of major authors, new writers, poetry performances, workshops, manga and much more.
Located 15 miles north of York in the beautiful scenic village of Crayke, the Kunsthuis Gallery celebrates the best of Dutch art alongside the increasingly well regarded and emerging UK artists. The contemporary art gallery, a converted barn, residing in the elegant setting of Dutch House features a unique range of paintings, sculptures, prints, photography, ceramics, glass and jewellery. The programme of exhibits is refreshed every 8 weeks to boast new and innovative artists.
The Swaledale Festival is an annual celebration of music and arts in the three northernmost Yorkshire Dales, Swaledale, Wensleydale and Arkengarthdale. The two-week festival started in 1972 and attracts the finest artists from all over the world, regularly commissioning new work showcased mostly in charming churches, chapels, village halls and heritage sites. The events programme includes a core of classical music concerts as well as folk, brass band, jazz and world music. There is poetry, film, dance, drama, comedy, workshops, exhibitions, talks and themed guided walks.
The Craft Centre and Design Gallery
The Craft Centre and Design Gallery was established in 1982 and provides a unique visitor experience for those visiting the vibrant city of Leeds. The lively exhibition programme comprises four diverse front of house exhibitions each year, alongside three inspirational print shows and three dedicated showcases highlighting materials such as ceramics, glass and wood. The exhibition programme is augmented by an ever changing selection of designers specifically chosen to support and enrich each individual showcase.
York Theatre Royal
Producing great drama in the city of York for over 250 years, York Theatre Royal is one of the country’s leading producing theatres. Each year the theatre entertains over 200,00 people with its wide variety of performances, events and activities. The theatre reopened this year in April following a £6million redevelopment, the building is now fit for a 21st century audience what will be sustainable and able to thrive into the future.
Yorkshire Young Sinfonia
Yorkshire Young Sinfonia is a unique youth orchestra, delivering life changing residential courses for young musicians and unforgettable concerts with some of the world’s finest soloists. The Sinfonia provides young musicians aged between 12 and 18 from Yorkshire with a residential orchestra course, helping them to develop both musically and socially. This is delivered by some of the most exciting tutors from around Europe who not only play at the highest standard, but are innovators in musical education.
