World Curry Festival, Leeds

1st - 3rd October

This three day extravaganza of food and culture will be held at Millennium Square, Leeds. Featuring a wide variety of International food, drink, master classes from renowned curry chefs, live music, street entertainment and a host of other spicy activities! Indian food, Kashmiri food, Thai food, Caribbean food, Malay food, Sri Lankan food and Japanese food will be on display show throughout the event, as well as the Great British curry. Independent artists will entertain you with their music, dance and theatre acts, whilst you browse, chill and savour. Take in the sights, sound and smells of our spice souk, watch a curry master class with a celebrity chef, do a spot of shopping, listen to some music and then relax with a tasty curry and a beer in the comfortable surroundings of our festival square!

Ilkley Literature Festival

1st - 17th October

The North's liveliest and most prestigious Literature Festival with over 180 events over seventeen days - including authors' events, discussions, readings, performances, workshops, children's and young people's weekend and many more.

Grin up North Comedy Festival, Sheffield

1st - 31st October

The Sheffield Comedy Festival is back! Now for the entire month of October it features the very best live comedy from Britain and around the world.

Light Night, Leeds

8th October

Light Night is a chance for everyone to come together and celebrate the city, focusing on their shared culture, history and identity. For one night each year, Leeds city centre venues that are normally closed at night open up late to host a range of cultural events, displays, shows, and exhibitions and provide bizarre, unusual and out-of-context entertainment.

Musicport, Bridlington

22nd - 24th October

Musicport World Music Festival takes place each autumn in Bridlington. Growing year on year the festival has established itself as a prestigious event attracting major names such as Rachid Taha, Levellers, Misty In Roots, Courtney Pine, Rolf Harris and many more.

Illuminating York

27th - 30th October

The Illuminating York Festival continues to breathe light and innovation into the city's historic and urban centre. Visitors and residents of the city are invited to experience cutting edge technology at its most beautiful.

Whitby Gothic Weekend

28th - 31st October

This Twice-yearly event held in April and October has grown into one of the most popular gothic events in the world, attracting all generations from across the UK and around the world. Most of the events are held at the Whitby Pavilion including the Bizarre Bazaar Goth Market.

Fright Night, Sheffield

31st October

Fright Night is Britain's biggest Halloween party, attracting up to 40,000 people into Sheffield City Centre each year!Attractions for 2009 included street theatre, ghost tours, Hagrid lookalike, a fancy dress catwalk, funfair rides/stalls, food stalls and children's activities.
