Do 'different' Sports in Yorkshire

Icehockey in Yorkshire

The 'big' sports like football, rugby league, rugby union, cricket and horse racing are all on offer in Yorkshire. But that's not the whole story. Yorkshire has got all sorts of sports, from so-called minority games and events, to activities you may not even have thought of because they are so 'different'. Put those 'minorities' together however, and you get a huge majority, which is why sport in Yorkshire truly offers something for everyone.

The region's world class performers include heptathlete Jess Ennis, table tennis stars Paul Drinkhall and Darius Knight, and bobsleigh's Nicola Minichello, not to mention being home to the Olympic development squads for boxing, netball, volleyball, badminton, table tennis and athletics.

For something different out of doors, you could visit one of many polo venues or a race track featuring a round of the British Touring Car Championships. Get hooked on fishing at Bridlington's Open Water Championships, catch the breeze wind surfing on the same coast, try mountain biking and road racing, or our famous fell running tradition. Following many events like this is not just great fun, they also often come free of charge - another reason to dare to be different!
