The World Snooker Championships

SnookerThe 2010 World Snooker Championships will be held in Sheffield, Yorkshire between 17th April and 3rd May. Snooker's global flagship event, the World Championship brings together the planet's 16 top-ranked players, along with 16 qualifiers, and will pitch current World Champion, John Higgins, against one lucky (!) qualifier in the tournament's opening game.

With matches starting over 19 frames, and building to 35 frame encounters, there's no shortage of action to be had in the morning, afternoon or evening sessions. But tickets go on sale well before the tournament commences, so if you want to be there, make sure you've got yours!

Sheffield's World Snooker Championship's great stars and winners have included the likes of Stephen Hendry, Steve Davis and Ronnie O'Sullivan, and Davis's black ball defeat to Dennis Taylor in 1985 was one of British sport's all-time golden moments.

To call Yorkshire a crucible of snooker is an understatement, as The Crucible Theatre in Sheffield has been intimately associated with the growth in popularity of the sport since it began hosting the World Snooker Championships more than thirty years ago.

For the very best in world snooker, Yorkshire's right on cue.
