Double Whammy for Yorkshire Winners
Tourism businesses achieve national acclaim
Published: 18 April 2011
Yorkshire tourism stars brought home the Gold at last night's (15th April) Enjoy England Awards for Excellence. The Deep, in Hull, picked up the highly coveted Access for all Tourism Award, and The Dovecote Barns, near York, took the award for the very best Self Catering Holiday in England.
The glittering awards ceremony, organised by VisitEngland, recognises the best places to visit and stay in England from large hotels to small bed and breakfasts, and tourist attractions.
Following on from this success Yorkshire also picked up four silver awards for tourism operators which had demonstrated that they are amongst the very best in the country.
The awards news follows on from an encouraging start to the 2011 season which saw an increase of 10% in visitor numbers to Yorkshire attractions and self catering properties in January compared to the same period in 2010.
Gary Verity, chief executive of Welcome to Yorkshire, said:
"Congratulations to each of our award winners. 2010 was an amazing year for the Yorkshire tourism industry and we are looking forward to another fantastic season. Good quality attractions and guest accommodation are the backbone of our industry, add our unique events into the mix and you have an amazing visitor offer which is why people return to enjoy their breaks in Yorkshire."
