Life's a Beach at the Great Yorkshire Show

TEN tonnes of sand will be ferried from the shores of Scarborough to the green fields of Harrogate as part of ambitious plans to create the first ever beach at the Great Yorkshire Show.
Spearheaded by Welcome to Yorkshire, the move will see the mountain of sand travel more than 60 miles from Scarborough beach to the Great Yorkshire Showground.
The sand will be used to create a spectacular beach at Welcome to Yorkshire's exhibition stand which will come complete with donkeys William and Snowy, a Punch and Judy Show and candy floss.
The Welcome to Yorkshire Beach (at Stand 631, Avenue O) will host a string of terrific events and special guests throughout the three-day show which kicks off on Tuesday July 12.
Day one will see the winner of Yorkshire's Favourite Pub announced after the competition saw more than 200 pubs nominated, pulling in thousands of votes. It will also mark the launch of the brand new Welcome to Yorkshire Delicious Ale Trail which will take place at pop up pub The Pride of Yorkshire.
Racing legend Jack Berry will take to the stand to unveil the thrilling Go Racing in Yorkshire Festival, while the son and daughter of famous vet James Herriot (real name Alf Wright), Jim Wright and Rosie, will also be popping in to meet visitors.
Fans of ITV's The Dales, which pulled in an average of four million viewers per episode, can meet the stars when they are on the stand to sign copies of the new DVD on Wednesday.
Star guests will include Amanda and Clive Owen and their five children from Swaledale, Bolton Castle Owner Tom Orde-Powlett, Rev Ann Chapman from Hawes and pub landladies Margaret and Jackie Stubbs of the George and Dragon Hudswell. Leyburn Brass Band will also be providing entertainment throughout the day on the President's Bandstand.

The fun-packed show will be rounded off on Thursday with the launch of the stunning Edge of Heaven: The Yorkshire Coast book which includes a series of contributions about our Yorkshire coastline from a collection of writers including Ian Clayton and Margaret Drabble. The brand new book will be on sale alongside the popular Great Book of Yorkshire Pudding by Yorkshire food writer Elaine Lemm.
