Time for tea as new trail is launched
Published: 13 July 2011
There's something new brewing in Yorkshire this summer which tourism bosses hope will be everyone's cup of tea.
Welcome to Yorkshire has unveiled a new Tea Trail highlighting the county's unrivalled offering of places to enjoy tea as part of their delicious campaign.
The trail features a taste of Yorkshire's tearoom offer and where to enjoy some of the best brews around - from historic halls and hotels to heritage railways and attractions.
The guide, complete with map, also features the county's famed tea companies, producers and includes tea-based recipes from Yorkshire's Michelin star chefs.
Gary Verity, Chief Executive of Welcome to Yorkshire, said: "Afternoon tea in the great county is as popular now as it ever was, and our businesses and attractions have excelled themselves in proudly providing some of the finest around.
"We have some of the best tea to be enjoyed in the best places and this trail is not only a celebration of that, but also a guide."
The trail is being supported by one of the county's most famous tea rooms, Bettys, who welcomed the new trail.
Paula Kaye, Catering and Retail Operations Manager said: "Afternoon tea is one of life's great pleasures and a much-loved special occasion at Bettys six Café Tea Rooms where we offer a unique range of Yorkshire and Continental specialities, all freshly cooked to order or handcrafted at our bakery in Harrogate. It's really good to hear that the British tradition of taking afternoon tea is being celebrated in the county with the new guide."
The Tea Trail leaflet is available from Tourist Information Centres, festivals, various hotels and attractions and can be ordered from the website Yorkshire.com
