White Rose Awards Finalists Announced

Published: July 5, 2011

Welcome to Yorkshire has revealed which tourism stars are in with a chance of winning a highly coveted White Rose Award.

The hotly anticipated list of finalists boasts 94 of Yorkshire's best attractions, hotels, venues and individuals from the tourism industry. The list covers 16 categories (*categories and finalists listed at end) and the winners will be announced at a glittering black-tie awards ceremony.

It has been revealed that the award ceremony will be held on Monday 10th October and for the first time it will be hosted at Doncaster Racecourse.

Last year's glamorous ceremony attracted a sell-out of 1,000 guests, making it the biggest tourism awards in the UK.

Independent Chair of Judges, Barbara Woroncow OBE, complimented the standard of the finalists:

"With so many exceptional entries it is always a pleasure to see so many high quality submissions; the judges always struggle to choose who should go through to the awards. Yorkshire has such an abundance of tourism gems, those who made the finalist list should be incredibly proud of themselves."

Barbara is joined on the independent panel of judges by Peter Charlton - Editor of the Yorkshire Post, Elaine Lemm - food and travel writer and Roger Bowers - former High Sheriff of West Yorkshire.

Gary Verity, chief executive of Welcome to Yorkshire, said: "Yorkshire's tourism economy is booming and the finalist list for the White Rose Awards indicates why. The level of high quality entries was outstanding and a firm indication that our tourism industry know the importance of offering our visitors that extra special experience."

This year's award categories include; Best Tourism Experience, Large Hotel, Caravan Holiday Park & Holiday Village, Business Tourism and Small Visitor Attraction. A new category, Restaurant of the Year, is also set to place the spotlight on the county's delicious eateries.

People interested in attending the awards should visit www.whiteroseawards.com, email info@whiteroseawards.com or call 0113 322 3508.
