Yorkshire Pubs Battle it out to be crowned the Favourite Local
Published: 14 June 2011
Twelve of Yorkshire's most popular pubs are to battle it out to win the title of "Yorkshire's Favourite Pub".
A competition, being run by the official tourism agency, Welcome to Yorkshire, saw the public nominate more than 200 pubs which pulled in almost 2,000 votes.
A panel of judges narrowed the 30 with the most votes down to 12 finalists and the public are now being invited to vote for which of these 12 pubs they think is Yorkshire's Favourite Pub. Voting will take place from June 14 to July 6 at www.yorkshire.com/pub
The pub with the most votes will be announced at the Great Yorkshire Show on July 12 and they will be crowned "Yorkshire's Favourite Pub".
The competition has been launched to highlight the quality of pubs in Yorkshire and the top 30 with the most votes will feature in a new Ale Trail leaflet being produced by Welcome to Yorkshire for visitors.
Gary Verity, Chief Executive of Welcome to Yorkshire, said: "Many people know which are the best locals and we want to share that knowledge with visitors.
The response to the competition from the public has been fantastic. The judges found it hugely challenging in getting the top 30 down to a final list for the public to vote a favourite from as the standard was so high.
"We felt these final 12 pubs represent some of the best pubs in the county. The comments voters sent in about these were so heartfelt and full of pride, all of which contributed to the decision making process.
"Ultimately, every pub in the top 30 should be congratulated - and I hope the final 12 pubs will now be out encouraging their supporters to vote again to help bring home the title."
