Yorkshire Tees Up a Golfing Winner
Story Published: 7 September 2010
As Ryder Cup fever hots up, Welcome to Yorkshire, the official tourism agency, launches a global bid to bring more golfers to Yorkshire.
The county has three courses which have hosted the Ryder Cup - Moortown, Ganton and Lindrick - it also has a host of other championship grade courses, a selection of which form the basis of a new dedicated campaign to highlight the quality of golf on offer in Yorkshire.
Gary Verity, chief executive of Welcome to Yorkshire, said: "Yorkshire is one of the best kept secrets in golf! We have an historic association with the Ryder Cup as well as some of the best links and inland golf courses anywhere in the country. We are working in conjunction with our leading clubs to make Yorkshire a destination of choice for golfers the world over."
The campaign will feature 10 of the county's signature courses as well as a selection of golf resorts. Welcome to Yorkshire will work closely with the International Association of Golf Tour Operators to raise awareness of Yorkshire as a top golfing destination as well as hosting familiarisation trips for golf's global media.
Adam Frontal [pictured], recent winner of the Yorkshire Amateur Championship and managing director of Cookridge Hall Golf Club, helped launch the new campaign at Moortown Golf Club, the first club in Europe to host a Ryder Cup match.
He said: "I have played all around the world but there is nothing that can compare to the individuality of Yorkshire's courses and the warmth of the Yorkshire welcome. Yorkshire's golf is truly stunning and definitely deserves a higher world ranking."
Further information about the golf campaign can be found at www.yorkshire.com/golf - courses include: Alwoodley, Bradford, Fixby, Fulford, Ganton, Ilkley, Lindrick, Moor Allerton, Moortown and Pannal.
