Ripley Castle, Harrogate
Enjoy 2-4-1 entry into Ripley Castle & Gardens. It is open every weekend until the end of February and then on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays in March. If you haven't been to Ripley before you really should make the effort to come because the Castle is one of Yorkshire's great historic attractions. It is an amazing place to visit and it is open all year round. The Ingilby family has lived here for over 700 years; very few families can have lived in the same place for longer! Discover the priest's secret hiding hole where Catholic priest Francis Ingilby and his brother David, the most dangerous Papists in the North hid when officers sent by Elizabeth I came looking for them; it was so well concealed that it remained undiscovered for almost 400 years. Admire the astonishing 16 lock treasure chest in the Knight's Chamber, learn how the Ingilby's were related to or associated with no fewer than nine of the eleven main Gunpowder Plot conspirators and how Trooper Jane Ingilby, a staunch royalist, held Oliver Cromwell at pistol point in the Library: how did she get away with it? Feel for yourself how heavy the Ingilby Civil War armour is and appreciate how very uncomfortable it was to wear. The four acres of Walled Gardens contain some of Britains largest herbaceous borders including a Black and White border designed by Matthew Wilson of Channel 4's 'Landscape Man' fame. In April the fragrance radiating from the spectacular display of the National Hyacinth Collection is wonderful, relax on one of the many benches and enjoy the riot of colour. The kitchen gardens contain rare collections of herbs and spices, fruit trees and vegetables.
Not available in conjunction with any other offer. There is no cash alternative. The offer is for the Castle & Gardens and not for the Gardens only. It is valid every weekend until the end of February 2012 and on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays in March 2012.
