Places to Visit
Arguably the star attraction of Pocklington, Burnby Hall Gardens is home to a National Collection of Hardy Water Lilies - the biggest such collection to be found in a natural setting in Europe. Visit here and explore the beautiful gardens, walk round the picturesque lakes and also make time to drop into the Stewart Museum to discover more about the man who made no less than eight round-the-world voyages between 1906 and 1926.
Pocklington Arts Centre- has gained a nation-wide reputation for its live-event and film programmes, in only a short period of time. One of the county's most vibrant and thriving art centres, it really packs a punch when it comes to providing top class entertainment.
If you like wildlife why not visit the Robert Fuller Gallery. Showcasing highly-detailed paintings and sculpture by the celebrated wildlife artist Robert E Fuller, this is more than just an art gallery. Each year this venue holds a variety of wildlife related events, including guided walks to find barn owls and badger ‘safaris'. Just a 10 minute drive from Pocklington, it's a must for nature lovers. Open every day, including Sundays, from 11am - 4.30pm, the gallery is a great place for a day out for all the family.
For golf fans, views across the Yorkshire Wolds provide a striking backdrop to The KP's 18-hole championship course.
Walks and Cycling- Many of the county's leading walks run through Pocklington including the Wilberforce Way, the Wolds Way, the Minster Way & The Yorkshire Wolds Way National Trail whilst the ever popular White Rose Cycle Route also flies through this market town. If you're walking the Wolds Way then why not stop the night at Millington Village Hall? The Hall offers comfortable camping barn type accommodation. They offer Basic facilities for your overnight stays; a well equipped kitchen, indoor toilets, electric heating, hot water and drying rack. The Hall itself can accommodate upto 12 people in a single room, so ideal for small groups. They can also provide camp beds or sleeping mats if needed too!

There's plenty to catch the eye if looking for presents in Yorkshire. Start at Happy Days, a lovely little shop, ideal for homeware, gifts and garden supplies. After here make your way to the trendy Paper Doll, an independent clothing boutique, specialising in independent clothing and showcasing the talent of up and coming Yorkshire designers. Set over two floors, the boutique interior is designed like a small house with French-style armoires and rails filled with unusual garments and dressing tables spilling with unique accessories and gifts.
For the art lovers, head to the Art & Rose Gallery. Here you will find a beautiful, tranquil space in the heart of the town, where artists and makers can exhibit their work for sale. Set up in 2011 by Art Graduate Emma-Jane Whelan, ART&ROSE aims to showcase the best of local fine art originals, including paintings, prints, photography, illustration, jewellery & silversmithing, sculpture, ceramics, glass and textiles. A must visit.
Also definitely worth a visit is Fired Art. Here they offer a large variety of creative activities, from pottery painting, clay building and throwing a pot on a potters wheel to decopatch, art clubs and much more! They also offer a bespoke design service to create your own unique, personalised gifts for special occassions and memorable moments - always a good place to visit in the lead up to Christmas!
Those with a sweet tooth should head to Ye Little Olde Sweet Shoppe who have a wide range of weigh-out sweets, from old favourites like the ones you haven't seen since you were a child, to popular everyday treats. So whether you enjoy a good bon bon or are more of a fudge fan, they have something for everyone!
Finally, head to The Acorn Gallery which is awash with superb originals from many of the top artists. There are stunning seascapes, landscapes, fantastic figurative pieces, romance, abstract and humourous. A great starting point for food in Pocklington is Judson's, a comfortable and warm restaurant offering the customer a friendly, relaxed dining experience where they can feel completely at home. The restaurant is committed to sourcing as much local and seasonal produce as possible with a regular change of menu for variety. There is also a wide range of world beers as well as quality hand-pulled ales and draught lagers. As the proprietor Peter Ward says "I like to imagine dining at Judson's is like having your friends around to your home for a dinner party just without the hassle!"
The Wolds Coffee House is a traditional coffee house and tea rooms specialising in home cooked foods, cakes and scones all prepared on site with ingredients sourced locally where possible.
