Inside knowledge is the best...

From Harrogate's elegant gardens to the historic and outstandingly beautiful Nidderdale and Knaresborough areas, explore the stunning Harrogate District.

Insider's Tips

1.

Outstanding Natural Beauty

Harrogate has its own natural beauty with its Valley Gardens and the beautifully designed RHS Garden at Harlow Carr earning it a well deserved reputation as a stunning Garden Town. But go a little further afield and you discover the dramatic limestone cleft of Nidderdale's How Stean Gorge and the strange formations of Brimham Rocks. The unspoiled natural beauty in this area is truly breathtaking.

2.

Award-winning attractions

Animal, agriculture and food lovers will enjoy visiting the Great Yorkshire Show, Countryside Live and Harrogate Speciality Food Show - just three of the many exciting events happening in the Harrogate area. Harrogate's glorious Turkish Baths, famous Betty's Tearoom and historic Montpellier Quarter are also not to be missed. Or how about visiting the history-steeped Mother Shipton's Cave? The Petrifying Well is England's oldest visitor attraction, first opening its gates in 1630 and still just as peculiar today!

3.

Fun for the family

Children and adults of all ages will enjoy a visit to Pateley Bridge's monumental piece of public art, The Coldstones Cut. Visitors can walk through and explore the sculpture which overlooks a huge working quarry and offers spectacular views over the magnificent Nidderdale landscape.  Further afield lies Fountains Abbey, another perfect place for a family day out - a stunning World Heritage site encompassing the largest abbey ruins in the country and some of England's most spectacular Georgian water gardens. If that's not enough, 700 year old Ripley Castle is sure to enthrall all ages with its sometimes gruesome history, magnificent grounds, lakes, deer park and walled gardens.
