Come rain or shine, Sheffield has activities galore to keep little adventurers entertained. Cue brilliant sunshine – let them run wild and free in the Winter Garden with its 2,500 exotic plants or head to Sheffield Botanical Gardens and check out The Bear Pit which is arguably the finest surviving example in the UK. The superb condition of the structure is due to the many years it was used as Yorkshire’s biggest compost pit. 

Cue drizzly rain – let them loose in the National Emergency Services Museum. The museum is located in one of Yorkshires first purpose built combined Police, Fire and Ambulance Stations dating back to 1898. This amazing building houses over 45 vehicles relating to the worlds Emergency Services from Horse Drawn Fire Engines to Ambulances and from Police Cars to Mines Rescue!

Encounter the exotic and discover a wild family day out at Tropical Butterfly House! Meet Meerkats, owls, snakes and other amazing animals during unforgettable Animal Encounters throughout the day. Free-flying Bird Displays take place daily, featuring spectacular birds of prey, parrots and more!

Alternatively head to Heeley City Farm – a relaxing slice of the countryside in the heart of Sheffield where you can meet our friendly animals, play in our under 8’s Playground, enjoy some healthy vegan and vegetarian food in the Farm Kitchen, browse our peat-free Garden Centre and learn about how to save energy and live more sustainably.
