Ripponden Essentials

Welcome to Ripponden

In the beautiful Ryburn Valley lies the conservation village of Ripponden, with its lovely Church, Georgian-fronted vicarage, Grade II listed Old Bridge Inn and 16th century packhorse bridge.

Ripponden has a great food and drink offer, with several inns and pubs including ‘Yorkshire’s Favourite Pub 2015’ The Fleece Countryside Inn.

Nearby Rishworth moor is an area of outstanding natural beauty, home to a wealth of wildlife and a series of ancient round barrow burial sites, known as the ‘Cat Stones’.

Heritage

Nestled in a quiet corner of the Ripponden Conservation area by the ancient pack-horse bridge, the Grade II listed Old Bridge Inn has changed little in over 700 years. The Inn dates back to 1307 and has been owned by the same family since 1963, so you will always find a warm welcome from your third generation hosts.

Next to the Old Bridge Inn is St Bartholomew’s Church. Dating from 1736, St Bart’s is full of interesting features old and new, as it is the third Church built in the immediate area since the 1600s. The Church is open at weekends during the summer, so you can discover its interior and much-admired stained glass windows.

Food, glorious food

For a small village, Ripponden is blessed with a good spot or two for food.

Yorkshire’s Favourite Pub

The Fleece Countryside Inn, crowned Yorkshire’s Favourite Pub in the 2015 White Rose Awards, uses time, care and the freshest seasonal produce from across the Yorkshire region to produce every dish on their menu. Take in panoramic views across the Ryburn Valley as you enjoy your meal and stay in one of their five contemporary and stylish rooms.

Enjoy a great selection of fish, seafood and many dishes with a strong Mediterranean influence in the relaxed downstairs dining area or elegant upper floor of The Fox Bar & Bistro. You can also enjoy British favourites and the Fox’s amazingly popular ‘picnic bench’ afternoon teas.
