Yorkshire Dales Walks
One thing that always brings people back to the Yorkshire Dales is that it has some of the best walking routes in the UK, with impressive hill country and moorland, fields and meadows and gentle valleys. For those who like a real challenge, Yorkshire's Three Peaks Challenge beckons, but only the toughest can complete the ascent and descent of Ingleborough, Whernside and Pen-y-ghent, three of Yorkshire's highest peaks.
Keep an eye out during The Dales on ITV 1 for great places to go walking too!
For the less energetic, we have many man-made and natural attractions. From spectacular show caves, amazing country houses and gardens, to art galleries and health spas, there has to be something for you.
So have a look and see how we can tempt you with some of the best walks in Yorkshire.
Here's four walks in the Dales to get you started:
- Ingleton Waterfalls Trail: follow the 4.5 mile trail through ancient oak woodland and magnificent Dales scenery via a series of spectacular waterfalls and geological features. There's also a brand new refreshment centre, ideally located about halfway along the trail
- Dales Way: spectacular scenery through Wharfedale, Langstrothdale and Dentdale in the Dales
- Dales High Way: an exhilarating 90 miles of high level walking, beginning in the World Heritage village of Saltaire, crossing the glorious high country of the Yorkshire Dales
- Six Dales Trail: launched at the Otley Walking Festival 2010, this new 39 mile long distance trail takes walkers from Otley in Wharfedale, before traversing Washburndale, Nidderdale, Colsterdale and Coverdale to finish at Middleham in Wensleydale.
