Leyburn Market Place
Turner passed through the market town of Leyburn around the beginning of September 1816 during his extensive tour of Yorkshire to collect material for Whitaker's history of York series.
He did not actually sketch in Leyburn, but may have stayed in the town when travelling from Middleham to Constable Burton, both of which provided the subjects of sketches.

Turner's Viewpoint
Leyburn is visible in the distance in Turner's sketches that were drawn from above Middleham.
Discover The Landscape
The Turner Trails bench is located in the centre of the Market Place beside the war memorial.
Download our walking trail to explore Leyburn, as well as Aysgarth Falls, Bolton Castle and West Burton Falls, all sketched by Turner, on this long linear trail of 12 miles for experienced walkers.
