On the Vineyards we have a wide variety of species of bird living and nesting including Tree sparrows and Barn owls, and as we work on the vines we are amongst soaring skylarks and swooping swallows, and hares often keep us company!
Both vineyards are located in areas rich in wildlife. We are taking great care to respect and enhance this legacy and have worked with the RSPB to ensure that bird life is not only protected, but supported by our activities. We also respect our environment in terms of our use of resources such as water and electricity.

We use, wherever possible, local and seasonal produce. Bacon and sausages are from a local butcher who sources his meat from a farm in Old Malton. Free Range eggs are from a variety of Yorkshire producers. We use tomatoes and summer fruits from Yorkshire or surrounding counties, or from as far away as Scotland! Butter is from a Yorkshire dairy. Tea and coffee are Taylors of Harrogate, or are Fairtrade. Get your day off to a good start with fresh fruit salad, muesli, seeds and yoghurt, or traditional cereal. We buy as much British fruit as we are able when it is available ~ so our fruit salads vary from one season to another. The honey we serve is always Yorkshire honey, sometimes from hives on the vineyard, and our wonderful jams and marmalades are made by my 80 year old Mum!!.

The vineyards which are situated in rolling countryside to the north east of the City of York., We planted seven acres of vines in April 2006 on two separate sites. A further three acres were planted in 2008 making a total of ten acres under cultivation. Our sites are on warm, south facing slopes, ideal for maximising the amount of sunshine the vines receive.
Now that they are in production, Ryedale Vineyards are the most northerly commercial vineyards in England. Our two sites have been planted with a range of modern disease-resistant varieties: Phoenix, Regent, Rondo, Solaris, Seyval Blanc, Bacchus, Ortega, and Siegerrebe. Pinot Noir, Pinot Gris, Chardonnay have also been planted. We have produced two white and two rosé wines and a sparkling wine will be available early in 2012 ~ just in time for Valentine's Day.
