Great Ayton All Saints Church

Dating from the 12th century, this Grade I listed church retains much of its original fabric including a fine Romanesque south nave doorway with characteristic chevron mouldings. The candlelit interior contains mainly 18th century furnishings including a three-decker pulpit and sounding board. Famous for its connection with Captain James Cook, who worshipped here as a boy, All Saints contains memorials to Cook's patron, Thomas Skottowe, and friend, Commodore Wilson. It is also the location of the Cook family grave.
