The Via Ferrata at How Stean GorgeHow Stean Gorge is a spectacular limestone gorge hidden amid Nidderdale's lush green pastures, and is a great day out. Near to many tourist attractions, it's virtually on the Nidderdale Way, and close to Harrogate and Pateley Bridge.
In the gorge, narrow paths and footbridges cross the steep-sided ravine, which is 20 metres deep in places. Depending on the weather, water rushes over large boulders carving them into fantastic shapes. The Gorge is very sheltered and can be enjoyed year round. In many ways it's at its most impressive during the winter when there is more water around.
Now you can take part in the ultimate outdoor adventure - The Via Ferrata. Traverse rock walls, wade through gushing water, jump across boulders, abseil off a bridge, slide through waterspouts and sit under waterfalls! Combining iron beams, cables, ladders and chains, you'll get a unique new perspective of the gorge - this 3 hour trip is not for the faint hearted.
As well as its in-house AALA approved training provider, How Stean Gorge welcomes outdoor adventure groups to the gorge, provided they are affiliated with trained instructors and book in advance. You can also go rock climbing, caving and canoeing, all in one location. There's also a campsite nearby, complete with tipi's, and bike hire available.
