Head to Rural Arts, Thirsk and check out the North Yorkshire Art Project inspired by the work of Yinka Shonibare MBE. Shonibare was born in London and moved to Lagos, Nigeria at the age of three. He returned to London to study Fine Art and currently lives and works in the East End of London. Shonibare has become well known for his exploration of colonialism and post-colonialism within the contemporary context of globalisation through colourful, vibrant and witty installations, sculpture and images. Pupils in North Yorkshire Schools have been creating art inspired by Yinka Shonibare. The project began with a training session and a visit for school staff to Shonibare's exhibition at the Yorkshire Sculpture Park in July 2013 and concludes with this art exhibition.
