Music - Leeds hosts the annual Leeds Festival which is twinned with Reading Festival and is one of the most heavily anticipated music events of the year. Past headliners have acted as a venerable who's who of music with acts ranging from The Police, Pink Floyd and Nirvana to The White Stripes, Kings of Leon and Muse taking to the stage to cement Leeds' position on the summer festival scene. On a day to day basis there are countless gigs taking place in Leeds with even more great acts expected with imminent arrival of the new Leeds Arena.
Art and Culture - Leeds has a vibrant arts scene with the West Yorkshire Playhouse, the recently refurbished Leeds Grand Theatre and Opera North just a few of the jewels in the crown. For art there is the wonderful Henry Moore Institute and Leeds art Gallery right in the city centre, and the newly opened Leeds museum to soak up some of Leeds' rich past.
It's not just mainstream events that makes Leeds such a fascinating city. The independent scene is brimming with creativity so you could find yourself taking in eclectic lectures at Betta Kultcha one night, fighting an Iron Cup Cake competition the next night and then catching a gig at Leeds University at the weekend. Leeds hosts the magnificent West Indian Carnival each year and the Leeds Pride day each August. With so much going on all the time, seeing all that Leeds has to offer is even an event in itself!
