Week 46 - Easy Access

The routeLevel of Fitness
Suitable for off road, electric wheelchairs such as Trampers.

The Experience
Due to the terrain of this route, a high level of experience is required.

This five mile route follows the workings of the old lead mining area of Old Gang Mill in Swaledale.  The terrain is mainly surfaced with some short stretches of gradient up to a 1:6.  There are two beck crossings half way round the loop.  The last 800m section of the route is a much rougher surface with areas of exposed rock.

This is a spectacular area of countryside and gives you an insight into the lead mining history of the area.  The remains of the old smelt mill are seen together with the hugh old peat store which could hold three years worth of fuel.

Tramper Route to Old GangInformal parking is available at Surrender Bridge.
