The Black Swan Inn, located in the heart of the quaint market town of Pickering, boasts nine comfortably modern letting rooms, a popular restaurant, serving fresh locally sourced ingredients cooked to order every time, as well as an on-site brewhouse, a cocktail bar and a large beer garden. The Black Swan assures today’s visitor of a visit to remember.
For almost 300 years The Black Swan has been immersed in the history and day-to-day life of Pickering. Famous travellers plus the Pickering and Whitby railway are all part of its past as a hotel, inn and social hub.
2015 saw the regeneration of this 17th century coaching inn, when the owners saw the potential in what was becoming a rundown drinkers pub. Since then four of the nine rooms have been fully redeveloped into classically modern comfortable spaces.
The site now houses a microbrewery situated in the old wash house, owned and operated by their elder son. Research shows this is the first brewery in Pickering for over 100 years. To date they have seven of their own beers which rotate through the Inn’s bar on a regular basis, proving extremely popular with both locals and tourists.
The restaurant has seen a major turnaround over the last six months, sourcing only the highest quality ingredients and specialising in artisan cooking inspired by the Head Chef’s French heritage and the vast selection of seasonal fresh local produce. The menu offers an array of modern twists on classic English cuisine; this mix of tastes proves for a fantastic meal with the perfect pint to boot.
If this wasn’t enough to satisfy your tastes, The Black Swan is also home to Whistlers Cocktails Bar, plus a function room for meetings, large groups and even the occasional “knees up” as well as a large outdoor seating area for those warmer days and nights.
This is one of the largest premises in Pickering and continues to be a work in progress around the site, but it has certainly come a long way from its roots as the old court house and post yard and we certainly can’t wait to see what they have in store next!
