We visited the Royal Hotel in October 2022, and found it to be as wonderful as ever. With standard rooms available for around £120 per night, or £180 a night including dinner and breakfast, it’s not a lot to pay for such an impressive location – you literally cannot mark this hotel down for where it’s positioned.
Whitby Harbour itself is a thronging Yorkshire seaside place, which is well worth a visit, and as good as any continental seaside town. You can view it all from a room with a view, or the bar or restaurant in the Royal Hotel.
Everything about this hotel is quietly functional, but it’s got lots of space to unwind, such as in the large games area or the comfortable guest lounges – all so important if you’ve spent the day climbing stairs galore exploring Whitby in the fresh sea air!
The food is good Yorkshire fare, and reasonably priced. It’s not a fine-dining experience, but rather tasty food is the order of the day, having spent the day building up a hunger walking on the sand.
Would make an ideal weekend or midweek getaway for people coming from within Yorkshire, any time of the year, or a super base for a longer stay for those coming from further afield. Perfect for: couples looking for a quiet stay beside the sea.

Overlooking Whitby Harbor, The Royal Hotel is located opposite the famous Whalebone Arch in the West Cliff area of Whitby. With breath-taking views of Whitby Abbey, the property offers a bar and a restaurant.
