Vivers Mill is a Grade 2 listed building whose long history dates back over 800 years when a mill was first constructed on this site. Starting life as a paper mill in the year 1198 making paper for the monks at the local monasteries it was converted to a flour mill in the 16th century. At that time the existing street name was changed from Paper Mill Lane to Mill Lane to conform with the change of use of the building.
Over the years Vivers Mill has been restored to create a peaceful getaway with modern conveniences while at the same time respecting the history of the building by maintaining the working waterwheel and assorted milling machinery. Original wooden beams abound throughout the property together with bare stone walls creating a warm, old-fashioned, homely atmosphere. Original millstones feature in the walls and in the large, welcoming, guest lounge.
Vivers Mill is idyllically situated in a truly peaceful location overlooking fields and the mill-stream to the front and Vivis park to the side whilst still being only 5 minutes walk to the town centre and 6-7 minutes walk from the North Yorkshire Moors Railway. We also have a large private car park.
