Summer in Harrogate wouldn’t be complete without the joyful anarchy of Oddsocks, and this year is no exception. The much-loved touring theatre company returns to the Harrogate Music Festival with their high-energy take on A Midsummer Night’s Dream at RHS Harlow Carr on Tuesday 1 and Wednesday 2 July 2025.

Set in the beautiful gardens of RHS Harlow Carr, this is outdoor theatre at its most playful and unpredictable. Oddsocks promises a hilarious evening of live music, slapstick comedy, wild costumes and their unmistakable irreverent twist on one of Shakespeare’s most magical comedies.

Mayhem in the Moonlight

The play opens with a royal wedding in sight—but true to Shakespearean form, not everything goes to plan. Four lovestruck young people flee to the forest, thinking they can solve their problems in private, only to run headlong into a tangle of mischievous fairies, chaotic spells and a group of amateur actors rehearsing a play. Cue the comedy.

As ever, Oddsocks delivers this classic tale with their signature brand of theatre: bold, bright and very, very funny. Their productions have delighted audiences across the UK for more than three decades, and their annual appearance in Harrogate is a much-anticipated summer tradition.

A Long-Standing Festival Favourite

Creative producer Elli Mackenzie said:

“Oddsocks has been performing at Harrogate International Festivals since the early 1990s. Returning each year with our unique brand of Shakespeare performance is a highlight of our three-month tour. RHS Harlow Carr is a glorious venue, and the festival looks after us so well—it’s like coming home.”

Harrogate International Festivals Chief Executive Sharon Canavar added:

“It’s impossible not to fall for the joyous charms of Oddsocks. This is Shakespeare like you’ve never seen it before. Their unique take on the Bard’s works is simply brilliant, and audiences of all ages just love it.”
