Bradford Cathedral will host an evening of dialogue, reflection and cultural exchange as part of the Bradford Literature Festival on Saturday 5 July 2025, welcoming the Rt Hon. Baroness Sayeeda Warsi and the Rt Revd Dr Toby Howarth, Bishop of Bradford, for a special ‘In Conversation’ event.
Starting at 7:30pm, the evening opens with Sufi music before moving into a live conversation between Baroness Warsi and Bishop Howarth, exploring the shifting and contested landscape of interfaith relations in the 21st century.
A City of Culture in Conversation
The discussion will address how interfaith dynamics are unfolding in cities like Bradford and what can be learned—both from moments of harmony and times of challenge—as the city looks ahead to its year as UK City of Culture.
Following the conversation, guests will enjoy a simple communal meal of dhal, rice and accompaniments, with time set aside for small group conversations and reflections on the themes raised during the evening.
The event concludes with more music and an opportunity to purchase signed copies of Baroness Warsi’s books.
An Evening of Shared Reflection and Cultural Dialogue
The Revd Canon Ned Lunn, Canon for Intercultural Mission and the Arts, says:
“At Bradford Cathedral, we stand in our centuries-long tradition as a gathering place for encounter: a space where people have come together across differences to meet, to listen, and to grow in understanding. As convener for the city, we’re passionate about creating spaces of real, honest conversation, where we can be brave, curious, and genuinely open with one another.
Rooted in our story, yet always looking forward with innovation and openness, we long to foster intercultural connections that challenge, enrich, and transform us. This event, taking place during the Bradford Literature Festival, is all about wrestling with the big questions of faith, identity, and community in a way that’s real and hopeful. We’d love to see you there.”
