Cannon Hall Museum

Cannon Hall is a stunning Georgian country house museum set in 70 acres of historic parkland and beautiful landscaped gardens. It is the perfect day out for all the family.

Visitors will enjoy the sights and sounds of the past as they explore the Hall and its grounds, uncovering the stories of this unique place.

Cannon Hall Park and Gardens is an idyllic place for a relaxing walk, family outing or picnic. The Park is an ideal place to explore with children, with acres of grassland that are perfect for games.

Deeper in the landscaped gardens is Fairyland, a beautiful and tranquil hideaway. Built in the 1870’s this whimsical garden features arches and pillars built from stone taken from the ruins of local churches surrounding a relaxing pond area.
Adjacent to Cannon Hall is the historic walled garden, home to one of the most extensive collections of pear trees in the North of England.

Cannon Hall Museum is home to an astounding mix of paintings, metalwork, ceramics, modern glassware and furniture collections displayed in exhibition galleries throughout the Halls’ historic rooms. Of particular note is the Moorcroft collection, the finest collection of Moorcroft Pottery in a public museum.

Visitors are invited to explore some of the grand rooms on the south front of the Hall including the Ballroom, Dining room, Terrace room and Drawing room and Library which have been restored to their former grandeur. Furniture by George Hepplewhite, Thomas Chippendale and Robert Adam fill these historic rooms and later designs from Shapland and Petter provide a fitting contrast.

Bedrooms in the upper floor of the Hall have been transformed into galleries: the Decorative Arts, Changing Exhibition and Moorcroft Galleries are wonderful family friendly spaces and house stunning displays of the collections.

Cannon Hall has been home to The Regimental Museum of the 13th/18th Royal Hussars (Queen Mary’s Own) and the Light Dragoons since 1969. Visitors to the museum will explore the history behind the Regiment’s campaigns and find out about the men who served with them over the years.
