We’re an artisan cheesemonger and fine food merchant based in West Yorkshire. A family run business headed up by husband & wife team Richard & Clare Holmes. The business started 16 years ago when the couple bought the last Cryer & Stott market stall in Wakefield West Yorkshire. The market stall sold basic provisions such as milk & cheddar. Richard had big plans for the business with his real passion for local artisan produce. Cryer & Stott’s first wholesale customer was actually the hotel where the couple held their wedding reception from there Cryer & Stott started getting a reputation for supplying the finest quality Yorkshire produce.
Now we support approximately 300 British producers. Supplying independent retailers, gastropubs, hotels and restaurants across the UK.
Passionate about what we do, we follow our products from milking parlor to plate. Each artisan item we deliver has a CV, giving the retailer, chef or front of house staff knowledge of the product.
Our service doesn’t stop at the door. As a business, we’re proactive when it comes to offering our clients training and tasting sessions. We understand, for example the workload of the head chef. We can create exciting cheese menus with seasonal availability and local provenance. We offer a consultancy service to new customers regarding product range, systems and procedures for cheese staff training.
After four years of hard work developing menus and creating different concepts, we were selected to supply the cheese and fine food products to two prestigious venues at the London 2012 Olympics. They are Greenwich Park, which will host the equestrian events and Eton Dorney, where the rowing takes place. The products delivered fed staff, athletes, corporate guests, VIPs, Olympic figures and royalty.
At these two venues alone, there were half a million covers served over the duration of the Olympics & Paralympics and 12 tons of cheese used. We also supplied four VIP events at the Olympic Stadium. Again, we designed the cheeseboard menus with as much provenance as possible.
In 2012 we became a supplier to Harvey Nichols. We’re now working with their Director of Food in managing the offer on their fresh food counter. We’ve introduced a range of cheeses, a range of pies.
One of our biggest customers is CGC Events, which caters for most of Yorkshire’s racecourses, as well as working closely with a number of football and rugby clubs across the Yorkshire region.
Our greatest achievement to date is being asked by The British Embassy in Paris to supply a seven tier cheese stack for a state visit by The Queen. This opportunity arose after Richard & Jemma (Business Development Manager) planned a trip to France sourcing artisan cheese from small producers of twinned towns & cities the Tour De
France route took in Yorkshire. Our cheese was eaten by the Queen on three occasions during one week in June 2014. It still astounds us to this day!
We’ve recently appeared on BBC 2’s Taste Of Britain with Brian Turner & Janet Street Porter talking about our Rhubarb cheese & pork pies. The duo enjoyed our products so much that they also spoke about our pies on ITV’s Loose Women in March 2015.
In October 2015 we were honored to have been named Yorkshire’s best Wholesaler by Yorkshire Post & Deliciouslyorkshire!
