Description

Many of you may remember the opening of Humble Pie the first time around, in 1999. Elizabeth, mother of three to, Emily, Susie and Betty, aged eight, two and ten months old, moved in and opened its doors in July ’99 with a fabulous team to help cook, bake, wash up and more than likely fulfill a spot of babysitting too!

Elizabeth ran the delicatessen every day of the week with fresh, homemade savory foods and baking available to takeaway or sit in. From beef stews, a range of casseroles, succulent chicken breasts wrapped in bacon, stuffed with homemade chicken liver pate, and

many more of Elizabeth most favorite dishes that her regular customers loved, not to mention Elizabethan Lamb, hmmm!

The talents in Humble Pie were endless and no request from any customer was ever refused. Partly because ‘’No!’’ has never been in Elizabeth’s vocabulary! Elizabeth and her beloved team gave everything their best shot, with regular catering events inside and out of Humble Pie, Christmas orders and many more fabulous occasions throughout the five years the shop was open for their customers.

In 2004, the closing party ‘’Bye Bye Humble Pie’’ took place and Elizabeth with her three girls and staff closed the doors of Humble Pie and moved in to their new home within the village. In the meantime, Elizabeth went on to open Wensleydale Foods Ltd, were she made homemade additive free microwavable meals and puddings for children and families across the country called Betty Guy’s Little Pies and Susie Guy’s little Puddings, were her two youngest girls modeled on the front of each pie and pudding, much to Susie’s delight.

In 2010 Elizabeth and her friend Pat Kirkbride wrote and published their very own cookery book, Ramblers Rewards, cooking from coast to coast. Containing only the best of their most loved recipes for savory snack and meals, sweets treats and puddings. Brilliant for everyday use, inspiring your families evening meals and pudding to follow!

And here we are today… the girls are all grown up and doing their own thing, having flown the nest, Emily lives in London and Susie goes to University in Newcastle. Betty still lives at home in Askrigg with Elizabeth and Bruce, Elizabeth’s husband. Having left school in 2014, Betty got herself a job at Milners of Leyburn and studied Business Administration during an apprenticeship for two years. She then went on to persuade her mum to reopen Humble Pie in partnership together a couple of months after leaving Milners. The opportunity was a one that could not be missed, fortunately for Betty it didn’t take much persuasion and Elizabeth was on board and they began the plans for the reopening of Humble Pie Fawcett & Guy.

After lots of hard work, many decisions and just short of two months later, the shop was ready for the grand opening on Saturday 1st April 2017. What a day!

Both, Elizabeth and Betty are overwhelmed with how amazing the return of Humble Pie Fawcett & Guy have been. The kind, loyal and generous customers they have had through the door, whether you are local, passing through or enjoying a holiday in the area, they couldn’t thank you anymore. The pair love to hear your comments upon your visit via word of mouth, TripAdvisor or Social Media. You will find Humble Pie on Facebook and Instagram, so please do leave your comment for them to hear!
