Description
Roundhay Park is Leeds’ premier park spanning 700 acres of rolling parkland, lakes, woodland, specialist gardens and a mansion house.
Within the park you will find some wonderful floral displays in the specialist gardens which include the Monet and Alhambra gardens plus 4 gardens that have been previously exhibited at the Chelsea Flower Show.
The park also contains lakes, streams and a landscaped canal in the canal gardens all of which are attractive to fish and birds with various species to spot and opportunities for fishing on the largest lake, Waterloo.
The rest of the site offers a wide range of opportunities for recreation including walking and running routes, football and cricket pitches, tennis courts, a golf course, bowling greens, a playground, a skate park and some wonderful hills for sledging!
Most of the paths are accessible for wheelchairs, buggies and the like and toilets are available at the Mansion, the Explorer’s café in the Canal gardens, Tropical World and the café by the playground.
Tropical World is one of Leeds’ most popular family attractions, offering visitors a chance to experience the sights and sounds of jungle, desert, nocturnal and aquatic habitats. The series of greenhouses are filled with jungle and desert vegetation and animals such as crocodiles, lemurs, butterflies, bats, snakes and a gorgeous family of meerkats complete with babies! Cold drinks and ice lollies are available to buy if you need to cool off or you can pop along to the Explorer’s café if you need teas, coffees, cakes or lunch.
