The George Inn is situated in the picturesque village of Thoralby in Bishopdale close to Aysgarth Falls – a hidden oasis in the heart of the dales. This is an ideal location for exploring the Yorkshire Dales National Park with its many attractions. Close by is Wensleydale, a lush sweeping valley, distinct for its wooded knolls and hidden waterfalls, the most famous being Aysgarth Falls and Hardraw Force.

The George Inn is a perfect starting point from which to discover this beautiful countryside using the many footpaths and bridle tracks.
This very quiet, traditional stone-built dales inn, dating from 1732, is full of character with a cosy, welcoming atmosphere and has two comfortable rooms for bed and breakfast accommodation situated in an annexe, just a few metres away. The rooms are individually appointed and have the refinements you would expect to make your stay as comfortable and memorable as possible. Both rooms are en-suite with colour TV, tea and coffee making facilities and a hair dryer. Well behaved dogs are very welcome and are charged at £5 per dog per night.
Inside the decor is traditional in its styling, with stools, chairs and tables and a log burning stove to keep things toasty in winter. The walls are decorated with a miscellaneous collection of paintings, prints and artefacts collected from travels around the world. RECOMMENDED IN THE GOOD PUB GUIDE AND THE GOOD BEER GUIDE, we provide excellent meals, using locally sourced ingredients, a good choice of CASK MARQUE ACCREDITED hand pulled real ales and fine wines. All dishes are freshly prepared to order. Everyone is sure to find something to suit their appetite, and children have their own selection to choose from. Closed Monday lunch time, except Bank Holidays, The George is open at every other session. Meals served:- Lunch 12.00 noon – 2.00 pm; Dinner 6.30 pm – 8.30 pm.
Nearby is Leyburn, with its thriving Friday market and many stylish shops, and Hawes where you can visit the famous Rope-maker and the Wensleydale Creamery. Within easy reach are the historic sites of Middleham, once the seat of Richard III and Bolton Castle, where Mary Queen of Scots was held captive. Other nearby attractions are Jervaulx Abbey, Aysgarth Falls, The Forbidden Corner and a wide variety of museums, craft shops and potteries. Local outdoor activities include caving, pot-holing, rock-climbing, fishing and pony-trekking.
